SAFETY & COMPLIANCE MISSION STATEMENT

The mission of the Safety & Compliance Oversight Committee is to maintain operational integrity in an environment where hazardous biological materials, cryogenic systems, and molecularly sensitive shipments are routinely entrusted to individuals who are brilliant enough to alter particle structures, yet somehow still capable of thawing a sample with their hands.

Our goals are as follows:

Prevent avoidable incidents caused by overconfidence, under‑attention, or the catastrophic intersection of the two

Ensure all materials are handled according to established protocols, not according to “what worked last time”

Reduce the frequency of mislabeled, mis‑stored, mis‑handled, or mysteriously missing samples

Provide clear, repeatable procedures that do not require interpretation, improvisation, or “creative enhancements”

Maintain a workplace where safety is a standard, not an afterthought

Intervene swiftly when someone decides to “test a theory” without authorization

Document every incident thoroughly, especially the ones that begin with the phrase “I thought it would be fine”

We are committed to supporting a culture of responsibility, accountability, and minimal chaos despite overwhelming evidence that chaos is the default state of this organization.
